 NFL Week 5 Power Rankings
Back to Full Blog

Patriots 5-0-0 Yes the Patriots still look better than anyone. Ended up spreading the ball around a little bit this week. Huge game this week.

Cowboys 5-0-0 Tony Romo had a rough week, and I will give him a pass on that one. Better get it together this week for one of the biggest games of the year. No more 5 interception games.

Steelers 4-1-0 Last week, everyone thought the Seahawks were becoming the Patriots of the NFC. Well, the Steelers put that to rest, putting up a very solid performance, missing two pro bowlers on defense and still pitching the shutout.

Colts 5-0-0 They have beaten up on some pretty average teams, and I am still not convinced this defense is any better than average. This team will still be ranked pretty high, but I need a landmark win.

Titans 3-1-0 Again my surprise team, and still goin hard. What is better than squeaking out a win against the Falcons and moving into the top 5. There is just too much parody in the league right now to have a really good top 5.

Jaguars 3-1-Coach Del Rio is on the hot seat this year, and it is starting to look like he should be every year. They had a great performance last week, especially on defense. This is a time that could be up and coming quickly.

Packers 4-1-0 After a really bad loss to the Bears, this team is able to stay towards the top. That is probably due more to other teams also playing poorly. One bump in the road isn’t a huge deal, this team should bounce back and continue to look good.

Cardinals 3-2-0 Some may think that Arizona is way too high in the rankings, but a win is a win, even a close one against the Rams. A win in their next game would be huge for a team on the upswing. Kurt Warner should do fine for this team for now.

Redskins 3-1-Two weeks ago, the Lions put up 34 points in just one quarter against the Bears. The fact that the Skins allowed only 3 points all game speaks volumes about the defense. The offense looks good enough for now, and Landry and Taylor are the best safety combo in the league.

Buccaneers 3-2-0 With a lot of injuries, this team looked decent against the Colts. However the injuries aren’t getting better, and neither is this team.

Seahawks 4-1-0 Shaun Alexander should not be on the field right now, and Mac Strong is not ever going to play again. Any team that gets shut out by the Steelers minus two pro bowlers is in trouble. This team could be heading down fast.

Texans 3-2-0 A nice bounce back win after a rough stretch. This team may not make the playoffs, but they are improving at a nice clip. Watch out for Mario Williams who is improving while many ignore him, and continue to try and praise an average Reggie Bush.

Browns 2-3-0 This team has done the best out of anyone against the Patriots so far this year. That is enough to keep a team with a good offense and weak defense at 13.

Panthers 3-2-0 A win is a win. Even against the Saints.

Ravens 3-2-0 Seeing as road wins are hard to come by in the NFL, the Ravens will take a close one in the bay. Again, this team continues to get older, and have some problems on offense. If they can’t move the ball they won’t win.

Giants 3-2-0 For a team that looked so good on defense just a week before, giving up 24 points to the Jets is a bit too many. A win against Atlanta is necessary this week to keep this team hoping for a playoff spot.

Chargers 2-3-0 A 41-3 win is impressive no matter who you beat, and doing it against a 2-2 team on the road is something to brag about. However the Chargers need to show they can play well again this week before they can be taken seriously.

Broncos 2-3-0 When you are at home and lose to a 1-3 team 41-3, it is a rule to be ranked below that team in this week’s ratings. This team needs a bounce back game badly this week, or this team which got its two wins with luck, could sink fast.

Lions 3-2-0 Losing 34-3 to the Redskins just isn’t going to cut it. This team has shown they can play well this year, and they need to use CJ a lot more. At only one game back, this team still has plenty of hope.

Bears 2-3-0 This team probably won’t go anywhere with so many injuries this year. Not to mention last week’s win at Green Bay was a total gift. Either way, this team is clinging to playoff hope by a thread.

Chiefs 2-3-0 As I said last week, this team is looking at the next couple of years for legit hope, but not this one. The offense looked anemic against the Jaguars. However in a bad AFC West, all hope is not yet lost.

Raiders 2-2-0 Yes this team is 2-2 again this week, and the bye might have killed their momentum. This week is going to be very telling about where this team can go by the time the postseason rolls around.

49ers 2-3-0 Trent Dilfer is probably the difference in last week’s game, and not in a good way. Only scoring seven points against a suddenly average Ravens defense is not good. This team just doesn’t have enough players working together.

Bengals 1-3-0 This team needs to have a strong outing at Kansas City this week. Any chance of a playoff berth rests on winning this week. A loss could bury the Bengals in the AFC North.

Eagles 1-3-0 Yet another team with a must win game, and again, coming off of the bye. The Jets should be a win, even on the road. The Eagles defense is banged up, but must hold together this week.

Vikings 1-3-Please start AP this week coach! Any hope of a decent season depends on it. Wait another bad team coming off of a bye with a must win game? Could happen, but not likely on the road in Chicago.

Jets 1-4-0 J-E-T-S Suck Suck Suck! Losing to the Giants on the road (wait, wasn’t that a home game?) can’t happen for a playoff team. And not to worry, the Jets are not that. At least Jet fans will have something to yell about at the draft. A top 5 pick!

Falcons 1-4-0 Hopefully this team will pick a new quarterback with the high draft pick they are working towards. Joey Harrington went back to the old Joey, and Byron Leftwich is done.

Dolphins 0-5-0 The bottom five teams in the NFL right now will probably be the first five picks in next year’s draft. The only good news is that a 3 point loss on the road to a solid Houston team isn’t to bad. Plus Miami gained 2 spots in the rankings after going to 0-5.

Rams 0-5-0 This team isn’t being helped with the loss of Stephen Jackson on a week to week basis. Not that it would matter because of an all around bad team. The offense did look like it was getting on track a little bit more, and the team played ok against Arizona.

Saints 0-4-0 Reggie Bush the Lebron of the NFL? Umm… No. Mainly because Lebron put the Cavs on his back and took them to the playoffs, when he was the only decent player on the team. Reggie hasn’t shown he can be the main man, and boy do the Saints need it now. A home loss to the Panthers is bad.

Bills 1-4-0 The only way to finish behind a winless team who lost to the Panthers at home is to do what Buffalo did on Monday night. In one of the greatest games in the last 5 years, the Bills did everything they needed to too make sure they lost that game. If not for the win against the Jets which was close, this team could have been looking at the top pick in 08.
